Modi pats Shah for good show
Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi publicly appreciated his most trusted sergeant’s contribution in the BJP’s unparallel success and said that one of the biggest benefits of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls for the party was Amit Shah.
Giving credit to Shah for the party’s outstanding performance in Uttar Pradesh, Modi said that the BJP won 73 seats from UP, which is higher than Congress’s total tally despite Congress candidates fought from 30 States.
After he was elected as BJP parliamentary party leader unanimously earlier in the day in Delhi, Modi and Shah received grand welcome on their arrival at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday evening. The duo has come to their home State to attend a one-day Assembly session followed by BJP MLAs’ meeting on Wednesday, in which name of the new Gujarat Chief Minister will be announced.
Modi in his speech before he went to address a public meeting at his traditional constituency Maninagar said that as many as 20 States and Union Territories have become Congress-free following the poll results. On much talked about ‘Gujarat Model’, he claimed that it is a proven formula and it has now become institutional, which he would like to replicate nationally.
“In order to serve the nation, my experience in the State as Chief Minister would help me. Though, I am going out of Gujarat for bigger responsibilities, I will always remain a basic party worker from Gujarat as my primary membership in the party registered from the State,” he said, adding that people of Gujarat will always have right on him, wherever he would work.

Meanwhile, responding to cheering crowd, Amit Shah, BJP in-charge of Uttar Pradesh said that not only he alone but lakhs of party workers in Gujarat too deserve applaud for winning all the Lok Sabha seats. “Real architect of BJP’s thumping victory is non other than the Gujarat Chief Minister,” he said.

Gujarat House bids adieu to Modi
Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi bid an emotional farewell to Gujarat Assembly on Wednesday after he resigned as State Chief Minister and appointed Anandiben Patel as his successor.
Seventy-three-old Anandiben Patel will be Gujarat’s first woman Chief Minister. Patel was Revenue & Urban Development Minister in the Modi Cabinet. Her swearing-in ceremony will be held at Mahatma Mandir at 12.39 pm on Thursday.
In a meeting of BJP MLAs, Patel was unanimously elected BJP Legislature Party Leader. The meeting was conducted after Modi submitted his resignation as Chief Minister to Governor Kamala Beniwal on Wednesday afternoon.Considered as Modi’s close aide, Anandiben is the longest serving BJP Minister in Gujarat. She was also Minister in the Keshubhai Patel Government.
It was a rare seen of camaraderie between the members of two traditional rival parties in the Gujarat Assembly. The occasion was set to bid adieu to Modi for greater responsibilities as Prime Minister. Even Congress MLAs were all praise for Modi, though they also greeted him with satire and sarcasm.
In the special one-day session of Gujarat Assembly, called with the consent of Leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela, Modi was welcomed by BJP MLAs with rapturous clapping while Vaghela acknowledged his success with shawl and embraced his old-time friend of RSS days.
While responding to praise from MLAs in the House, Modi said, “Every legislator, be it from any party, has worked for the development of Gujarat. I am not the only one. I created a system where every MLA’s suggestion or question in the House was taken note of and followed up. Everyone has worked hard, and that’s what we are meant for.”
He said the experience of Gujarat Assembly was training ground for him. He promised to take up issues related to Gujarat but at the same time said that as Prime Minister he would have to ensure the welfare of every corner of the country.
Modi also remembered old days with Vaghela, when they used to roam around in every district of Gujarat on Vaghela’s motorcycle. In a lighter note he said, “Shankersinh can proudly say that India’s PM used to sit on my bike.”Referring to the elegant all-party send-off to him, Modi said, “Many people wonder what Gujarat model is. This is Gujarat model.”
Other Congress as well as BJP MLAs termed Modi’s as Son of Gujarat who made every Gujarati proud. Who’s who of Gujarat’s corporate circle, Gujarati film stars, noted singer Anuradha Paundwal and senior BJP leaders of Gujarat witnessed the proceedings of the special session.
While congratulating Modi, Vaghela reminded various agenda of the BJP and promises given by Narendra Modi during election campaign, including construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
“In the previous BJP-led Governments, the party did not have clear majority and it couldn’t push its agenda. Now, the BJP has a clear majority to push its old agenda, including Ram temple,” said Vaghela adding that he would like Modi to address the issues between Central Government and Gujarat -- including allocation of coal, Narmda Dam height, gas prices etc as early as possible.
He said that Gujarat has given two Prime Ministers to the country and Godhra played important role in their lives. “Moraraji Desai, the first Gujarati PM was deputy collector in Godhra in 1927 and was accused by the then British Government for the alleged riots. He however, left the job under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t talk on 2002 Godhra riots but he would like to remind that Narendrabhai worked in Godhra as RSS Pracharak.
Vaghela had decades of association with RSS and the BJP said that he would expect from Modi to enforce a Uniform Civil Code and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in Srinagar.“It was the individual’s marketing that made a difference. Seeking votes in the name of BJP would not have delivered this result as in the name of the individual,” he said.
Vaghela reminded Modi of the promise of bringing down inflation in one year and getting back black money stashed away abroad. He taunted that a committee should be constituted under the leadership.
