SHAH QUESTIONS CONG’S NEW-FOUND INTEREST IN GUJARAT
BJP’s national president Amit Shah who initiated his five-day visit to his poll-bound home State of Gujarat on Saturday came down heavily on the Congress vice-president saying that the scion of Gandhi-Nehru family will have to answer why his party ignored Gujarat for decades.
Addressing a press conference at port town Gandhidham in Kutch district, Shah said that the Congress party suddenly started loving poll-bound Gujarat which was otherwise ignored by the oldest political party for years.
The BJP chief demanded reasons from the Congress party for delay in Gujarat’s life line Narmada project for five decades, for not granting permission to close the gates on Sardar Sarovar Dam, for not giving special grant to desert area of Kutch district, for not giving central grant to Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar and injustice to Gujarat on crude oil royalty for many years.
During the recent frequent visit of Rahul Gandhi to Gujarat, he alleged that Rahul roamed around Gujarat with a chit in hand given to him by various NGOs having their vested interests. On the factors of Hardik Patel, Jignesh Mevani and Alpesh Thakore, Shah said that people of Gujarat were smart and they would deny politics of caste as the State had already suffered such dirty politics under the leadership of Congress Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki in the past. He claimed that once result of the assembly polls would declare, everyone would come to know that politics of development would prevail over politics of casteism.
Speaking on the allegations levelled by the Opposition party on his son Jay, Shah said that adequate explanations were already given and his son had filed a defamation case. ‘‘If Congress or anybody has evidences against Jay or his firm, they should put it before the honourable court,’’ he stated.
The Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha also gave the list of development work done by Gujarat Government as well as Narendra Modi Government at centre.
Kutch University developed under BJP rule, the district also got FM radio station and Narmada water too reached at the parched area of the district. According to him the biggest achievement of BJP ruled government was to transform Kutch district post 2001 earthquake as one of the most industrial areas of the country. The district was now offering plethora of jobs not only to the people of Gujarat but across the nation, Shah added.
‘‘Passport office was opened here. Rs 500 crore sanctioned for the gauge conversion between Bhuj-Nalia. Drip irrigation subsidies led to horticulture development in the district, he claimed. Criticising the opposition party for resorting on caste based politics, Shah challenged the Congress leaders to contest the 2017 assembly polls in the state on development poll plank.
Instead of criticising development in Gujarat, Congress should compare development of those states ruled by the oldest political outfit or it should compare the development journey of Gujarat from 1960 to 1995 and from 1995 to 2017, he added.
