A SIMPLE MAN, MENTOR WISHES NAMO SUCCESS

When BJP president Rajnath Singh announced Narendra Modi’s name as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, one man sat glued in front of a TV set at the Media Room at Gujarat BJP’s headquarters in Ahmedabad. As soon as Singh declared the Gujarat CM’s new role, he couldn’t control his emotions and burst into applause.
For regular visitors at Gujarat BJP’s headquarter, 66-year-old Ambalal Kosti is a familiar face. However, very few people know that the simple-looking veteran BJP worker spotted Narendra Modi’s potential when he was running a canteen at Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) office near Central Bus Station in Ahmedabad.
Way back in 1965 as a RSS Pracharak and active worker of Jansangh, Kosti was given responsibility of Kankaria ward as general secretary as well as president of Baherampura ward in Ahmedabad. At that time, Jansangh was recruiting talented youngsters as full-time party workers. Along with other office-bearers, Kosti was also given the task to recruit youngsters.
Ambalal found great energy in teenager Modi and invited him to join the party. “The spark in him was visible from day one,” he says adding, it took few days to convince Modi, but ultimately he decided to join the party.
“Though I was also in early twenties in those days, I could found a great potential in Narendrabhai. Instantly, we gave him responsibility of Kankaria ward,” he said. Co-incidentally, Modi is being elected in Gujarat Assembly from that area only.
After few months, Modi expressed his desire to become fulltime Pracharak of RSS. Thereafter, he never looked back and climbed new heights continuously, Ambala said.
“Like any other BJP worker, for me also it is a proud moment for me to watch him as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. I am confident that under Narendrabhai’s leadership, BJP would get absolute majority just like in Gujarat,” said an emotional Ambalal.
Kosti hails from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and settled in Ahmedabad since two generations. He still lives a simple life and roams around on bicycle.
While Modi doesn’t attend many social functions, he made it a point to attend Ambalal’s daughter’s marriage.
